Reference Letter Requests:

  • If you want me to write a reference letter for you, please consider the following approach that I use to writing letters:
  • I will write the reference myself and send it directly to the requesting party.
  • I will state how long I have known the student and in what capacity
  • I will mention their numerical score in my class(es), the class mean and standard deviation, and their class rank.
  • I will give my assessment of their analytical skills
  • I will give my assessment of their creativity and problem-solving skills
  • I will provide my assessment of their hardworking nature
  • I will provide my assessment of their teaching skills (especially for faculty references)
  • I will give an overall assessment of their attitude and ability to work in a team.
  • I will give my assessment of the impact of their work (esp for PhD references).
